DIY Macrame Tutorial - Intermediate Wall Hanging Part 2

Edit (0:17): Attach 12 ft cords for the third layer. Attach them so that the inner cords are 5 feet long (the filler cords), and the outer cords are 7 feet long (the working cords).

- 3mm Single Strand Twisted Cotton String in Natural (Beige)
- Driftwood or dowel (28 inches long)

Hey guys! Today I will take you through Part 2 of 2 to create this wall hanging. Quick recap - this wall hanging measures 28 inches wide, 3 ft long. You will need approx. 710 ft of 3mm single strand twisted string to complete this project. Find a link to Part 1 of this tutorial below:

We will create 2 front layers to finish off this piece.
Cut 4 pieces of rope, each piece is 10 ft long. Attach 2 pieces to the LHS of your work about 2 inches out from the previous layer.
Repeat on the RHS of your work.
Cut 8 pieces of rope, each piece is 14 ft long. Attach 4 pieces to the LHS of your work about 2 inches out from the group to the right of it. Repeat on the right side of your work.

Third Layer (Small Diamonds)
Tie a double half hitch knot with the two middle cords. Working down and to the right tie another DHHK. Working down and to the left tie another DHHK.

Using the left middle cord as your filler cord tie a DHHK working down and to the left. Using the same filler cord, tie a DHHK working down and to the right. Move to the right side of your work and tie a DHHK working down and to the left. Tie a final DHHK with the two middle cords to connect the diamond at the bottom. Continue tying small diamonds until you’ve tied 11 total.

Use the 13th strand from the back of your work as your working cord and tie a double half hitch knot around the cord in the front of your work. Leave the strand that you just used as your working cord in the back of your work and pick up the strand that you were using previously to tie your DHHKs. Use that strand to tie a DHHK to your filler cord. Tie a DHHK working down and to the left to create the bottom half of your small diamond.

Move to the left side of your work and tie a DHHK working down and to the left. Tie another DHHK working down and to the right. Tie one more DHHK with the 2 middle cords to connect the diamond at the bottom. Tie 2 more small diamonds.

Repeat that process on the left side of your work.

Fourth and Final Layer (Large Diamonds)
Tie a DHHK with the 2 middle cords. Working down and to the right tie 3 more DHHKs. Tie 3 DHHKs working down and to the left. Use the 2 outside working cords and tie a square knot in the middle of your work. Move to the left side of your work and tie 3 DHHKs working down and to the right. Move to the right side of your work and tie 3 DHHKs working down and to the left. Tie one more DHHK with the 2 filler cords to connect your diamond at the bottom.

Make 6 more diamonds using the same process (8 diamonds total).

Repeat that process on the other side of your work.

We will connect the fourth layer in the middle with two diamonds. Grab the inner two cords on either side and tie a DHHK about 2 inches down. Working down and to the right tie 3 more DHHKs. Move to the left side of your work and tie 3 DHHKs working down and to the left. Use the 2 outside working cords and tie a square knot in the middle of your work. Move to the left side of your work and tie 3 DHHKs working down and to the right. Move to the right side of your work and tie 3 DHHKs working down and to the left. Tie one more DHHK with the 2 filler cords to connect your diamond at the bottom.

Use the same method to create another diamond however this diamond will sit a bit further down on our wall hanging so tie your first DHHK about 5 inches down on either side.

The final step is to add cord to the front layer. Cut 58 pieces of string, each piece is 30 inches long. Attach in groups of 3 underneath and in between each of the large diamonds using Cow Hitch knots (you should be adding 3 pieces of cord to 7 sections on each side).

You will have 16 pieces of cord left. Attach 8 pieces to the 5 inch space in between the 8th diamond on the left and the diamond at the bottom and the final 8 pieces to the 5 inch space in between the 8th diamond on the right and the diamond at the bottom. Trim the ends as necessary.
