WordPress Banner Tracking to Google Analytics

I'm Susan from Susan Newman Design. And we're at Mission 50 in Hoboken learning WordPress. In this video, we are going to learn how to connect a banner tracking to Google Analytics in WordPress. We're on a site that's using WordPress for it's content management system. And in this video we are going to learn how to connect a WordPress banner tracking to Google Analytics. So lets say that you are getting advertising or you want to put a banner up on your site. And you want to see the exact tracking on that banner. So if we go to this page and we scroll down I'm going to show you how I have added a banner to this page. And so now I want to know how many people are clicking on this banner and the activity. And you know where they go. So if we go to that page what you need to do is add the special onclick event code within the area of the actual link. So you'll see that normally there would just be a link here that's going to where you want the person to go when they click on the banner. But now I've added this extra code in here. Okay there we go. I zoomed in so that you can see this better. So you are adding this onclick the event within this area of right here of where the link is. And right here where it says branding banner, that's a special name that I gave to be able to track that banner. So anytime that you would add this special onclick code to track that banner you would change the name over here so that obviously when you are looking at it in Google Analytics you'll be able to track the event for each banner ad. So once you add this and you save it then what you are going to want to do is you are going to want to go to Google Analytics. Log into your account. And then once you load that website that you are tracking so you'll scroll down under content, to events. And right here in these pages you'll be able to track what happens to that banner.
