I am very happy to announce the special guest for our next talk.

His name is Michał Kawalec and he comes from Poland. This engineer of many trades is currently responsible for libraries and architecture of League of Legends. Previously, he had worked with startups, supercomputers, and particle detectors. Michał is also the founder and organizer of the Monadic Warsaw, one of the biggest Haskell meetup group in Europe.

Recently in Poland he held an interesting and fun workshop where he talked about ReasonML and how to make Super Mario jump all over the place. ;)

This meetup will be an excellent opportunity to ask this experienced programmer about how he started with functional programming and what keeps him interested in studying different languages and hard mathematical problems.

In Michał Kawalec’s talk, we will follow the light through Haskell eyes and see various techniques for optimizing raytracing rendering algorithm and find out about surprising ways in which Haskell can be optimized. We will also learn about the basic principles of 3D graphics with example raytracer written in Haskell. Understanding the performance of Haskell code is often an important factor for success in many applications.

What exactly Michał’s mission is, his own words will describe the best: “I want to solve hard problems and do interesting things, while at the same time making the world a little better place for everyone.”
