Why I Wish I'd Learned Python Sooner!
If you're an engineer (mechanical, aero, civil etc.) in 2022, why should you learn Python?
It's easy to dismiss Python as "not for me". When I was an undergraduate I had zero time for coding; I just didn't see how I would need it as a mechanical engineer.
How wrong I was!
I've now been working for a decade and I am convinced it's never been more important for us engineers to code.
These are my top reasons why you should get started today!
1) Are you tired of the restrictions and constraints of big software packages (like Excel)? Knowing Python puts you in control of how you solve the problems you face everyday in your work.
2) Being able to code up prototypes for your ideas is a sure fire way to stand out at work and actually get stuff done!
3) Industrial companies from all sorts of sectors are ramping up their interest in artificial intelligence and machine learning. Python is the language of choice for many data scientists working in this field.
4) You never know what life will throw at you. Coding (particularly Python) is one of the most powerful and flexible skills you can acquire. Today you might be designing tooling jigs. Tomorrow you might be starting your own tech start-up and need to code up a prototype product from scratch!
