Why should you care about plugin load time and page load time? Because pagespeed is a Google search engine ranking factor and therefore it is important for your search engine optimization (SEO). The Google algorithm takes over a 1,000 factors into account when ranking a website, so it's not like pagespeed is going to make-or-break. However, it's a factor that you can improve, so why not do it?

Let's get to testing your plugins.

The P3 Plugin Profiler (https://wordpress.org/plugins/p3-profiler/) is a free plugin that you can find inside your WordPress dashboard, so let's install it.

To install this plugin please log into your WordPress dashboard, hover over Plugins and then click on Add New.

On the next page type "P3 Plugin Performance Profiler" into the search bar. The plugin we want should be the first one in the top left.

Click on the Install Now button and then click Activate after it's installed.

Under the Tools menu you will now see an entry labeled P3 Plugin Profiler. Click on it.

Then click on Start Scan. You will be asked to enter a name for the scan, please do so but don't add any spaces in the name because if you do you can run the scan.

Once you've entered a name for the scan click on Auto Scan and the P3 Performance Profiler will start to work. When it's done you will see a View Results button. Click on it to view the results.

The P3 Profiler will show you the load times of all the plugins, including the load time of the P3 plugin itself (you'll see that in the Advanced Metrics tab), which is excluded from the total load time.

You will want the load time for your plugins to be as fast as possible. A good load speed is less than one second for all plugins to load. An ideal page load time is less than half a second, but that's difficult to attain unless you have very few, well-coded plugins.

So to increase page load speed go through all the results to find plugins that appear to be taking way too long to load (multiple seconds).

If you find really slow loading plugins, run the test again a few more times to see that plugin is consistently slow. If it is, then it's time to find another plugin that does the same thing, but has a faster load time.

If there isn't an alternative you could try contacting the developer and inquire about the slow load time for the plugin.
