leopard geckos

note to self: i do not own these pictures!!
1.
Besides a 'night black heat' lamp and a 'day white light' lamp do I need another lamp? Do I need a under mat heater? Are both those lamps basking lamps?

2. Do I need 2 thermometers? Which lamp (night black, day white) do I keep on during the day and night, or do I keep them both on together?

3. When they say to keep this on during the day, do they mean our human daytime or the reptiles daytime? The geckos daytime is during our nighttime right?

4. Our the lamps safe to leave on or will something happen (like overheating, or a fire)?

5. Do they need a bath area?

6. Must I give crickets?

8. I read 2 different pamphlets and one said the humidity level should be at 40-60% while the other said 10-30%, which one is right?

9. What do they mean by a cool side and warm side and if so which lamps do I need to use? Do I need an under heater mat?

10. How do I set up a timer? Do I even need one?

11. For the misting do I spray the gecko or what part of the terrarium?

12. If the temperature and or humidity is too high how do I lower it?

13. Do I need cover clips?

14. I have a water conditioner that the store lady gave me and the directions say to pour 2 drops into his/her drinking water, do I need to do this?
1) The heat lamp and the day lamp will be fine. Many people will try to encourage you to get an under tank heater and say your gecko can't live without it, however I have never had one for mine and she is perfectly healthy. Just keep an eye on the temperature for the first little while! If the heat isn't right, then consider it!!
2) You don't need two thermometers. Just buy one, and switch sides once in a while until you get used to what the normal temperature should be in the tank.
3) The brighter light is the one that should go on during the day (our day) and the black light goes on at night. They mean our human daytime and nighttime not the reptiles! And correct these geckos are nocturnal.
4) The lamps are completely safe to leave on and nothing will happen! Just make sure there is nothing around the lamps as they do get hot. (IE: paper, clothing)
5) They don't need a bath area, you can use an old Tupperware or anything that your gecko will fit in. Be sure not to put too much water in it, so the gecko doesn't drown.
6) Crickets and mealworms are the most common diet for a leopard gecko!

8) Keep reading up on them or ask the place you are getting the gecko from.
9) A cool side and a warm side is meant by having the daytime and the nighttime lamp on one side of the tank. Having the light sit on the left side of the tank creates a warm left side and a cooler right side, the gecko will have a nice temperature choice.
10) You don't need a timer, you can easily do it manually! However if you go away often, they are ideal and can be purchased at home depot and should come with instructions.
11) Just spray around in the terrarium! Not necessarily on the gecko but nothing bad will happen if you mist it.
12) Lower it bu bulb wattage or turning off the light for a little while.
13) I don't and I have had no problems, leopard geckos don't climb so you should be fine.
14) YES! Unless you are on a well, some cities use cleanser in their tap water and you need to get rid of that by using water conditioner.
15) Seems like you are super excited and well prepared for this gecko!!! So glad to see someone has done their research BEFORE getting the pet!
