excel sql server vba table columns database information size

This tool provides a way to look at a database properties and is currently working with Sql Server
Currently testing is occurring with Sql Server 2012.

The interface used and the code is as simple as possible so to concentrate fully on the
database in a reliable way.

It allows to list the databases on the server along additional information
It alows to select tables and columns and show these on a spreadsheet

Current features allow to retrieve database informations mainly using select

Coming features will allow to update or insert data from excel to sql server with additional care
on floating point decimal numbers and dates
(This feature is already available in another workbook)

The additional care over decimals and dates answer mainly non US windows and Excel users
as when using Vba to perform actions on small (spreadsheet size) data sets, often regional
settings in Windows differ from the internal way Vba process data.
It's the same with dates, regional settings match the Excel spreadsheet user interface but
the VBA ide is likely to work in a different way like 01/03/2016 can be converted to 03/01/2016

Sometimes these changes go unotice.

Using raw text files in SSRS is also a way to prevent this. But this tool automate things
from Excel and for a small set of data allow the use of additional features such as formulas
or vba to easily update values without using complex sql or t-sql procedures



DDL Commands such as creating table from Excel will be implemented later

Multiple table select, update or insert… queries is also one of the feature to be added

A tool also available in another workbook allows to import all the vba from any Excel, Access
Word… application, all modules, classes, form code, worksheets… into a spreadsheet
and processing text using vba allow to investigate a code and for example find
all the related object (tables, columns) used in a the database.
This feature should be available when I merge the workbook that manage much of
Access tables and additional properties using ADO or DAO.

ADOX might be more secured to retrieve information from a database, I can't tell
when I can implement it.
