How to Create a Scroll Animation in Canva for FREE

Today you're going to learn how to create an incredibly eye-catching scroll animation in Canva for FREE.

If you're a B2B brand and you create documents such as eBooks, checklists, workbooks and other downloadable material for lead generation, this tutorial is definitely for you!

There is no better way to bring a flat and rather dull document to life and snag attention online than to use this scrolling effect.

You will also be able to demonstrate to prospective customers exactly what they will get if they download your freebie. Transparency is vital in building brand trust.

If you're a website designer you may want to use this effect to showcase your beautiful new website creation.

All you need for this tutorial is a Canva account (you don't need Canva Pro although I would always advise it), a document you've created in Canva and a free screen recording tool.

Firstly you want to find your Canva document.

I'm using an A4 recipe template for this tutorial but you can use any kind of document. It will need to be between 10-25 pages in length, approximately.

Download your document as a PDF Standard.

Locate your downloaded PDF and double-click it to bring it up onto your desktop.

Zoom in or out of your PDF so that the first page just about fills your screen.

Now you'll want to locate your screen recording tool / app. I usually use Camtasia but I'm going use Monosnap for this tutorial since it's 100% free (I'll leave the link in the RESOURCES section below).

Before you start recording your screen ensure you capture the first page of your PDF only. Use your cursor to drag the frame out until the first page is covered.

Now begin recording your screen as you carefully scroll down through your PDF. You may want to practice this a few times so that the scrolling is smooth and not too jerky. Don't record too quickly; just a nice steady pace.

Once you're done stop the recording and locate the video file.

I strongly recommend you use a video compression tool like Handbrake (link in the RESOURCES section below) because when you come to upload your video into Canva it will take much less time.

Back in Canva create a blank template in which you're going to upload your video snippet. I used a regular 800 x 800px template because I wanted to share the finished design on social media.

Go ahead and upload your video snippet into Canva. It may take a minute or two to do this.

Now find a suitable 'frame' into which you're going to drag your video. Search on 'Photos' or 'Elements' for an iPad frame, iPhone or laptop, whichever you want to use. Select the frame to bring it up onto your template.

Locate the video snippet you've just uploaded and drag and drop it directly into your frame. This may take a little practice.

Ideally your video needs to be about 15-25 seconds in duration. You can easily crop your video by clicking on it once to select it; go to your Canva toolbar where you'll see an icon of a pair of scissors. Click once on the scissors icon and then drag the turquoise side bars to crop your video. Click on 'Done' once you've finished cropping.

Now all you need to do is to pretty up your Canva template, add some text overlay or a background and download your completed template as a VIDEO file.

Now start sharing your beautiful design on social media or on your website. You'll be amazed by how many positive comments you get!

As always if you have any questions about this tutorial just drop them into the Comments section below - I'd be happy to help you.

If you enjoyed this tutorial please help me by giving it a like and sharing it with your friends.

Thanks so much for watching!
