This is just a song idea.
As someone who grew up in and around the Friends Church, the word Friend had a weird overtone to it, especially with Quakerisms like "that Friend speaks my mind," but the quirkiness of that lingo oddly felt like home to me. I have amazing friends in my life, some have been passing friendships that I treasure in my memories, some suffer from long-distance and can often feel forced yet faithful through FaceTime, other newer friends meet with me weekly to walk through life together. My best friend, my wife, decided to film me for 15 cringy minutes on our baby moon as I commune with the Father who became my Friend through His Son Jesus. Being a friend to someone is different from family because you weren't born into friendship; it's someone you choose to hang out with initially because of a common interest or circumstance, but eventually learn to love and call out truth in them consistently. Jesus is my friend because he chose me and entrusted me with the Father's love. Trust me, it hasn't always felt that way. I have felt like a slave, not being able to shake free from certain addictions, fears, and sadnesses, but Jesus gave up his life for me. He has called us friends yet while we were still his enemies. What an amazing truth and love we are invited into.
