This piece is inspired by Lelouch from Code Geass (lament for the green leaf that is his love).

"Lament for a Leaf" is the first string quartet that I have written, inspired by Code Geass. I was 17 at the time I wrote this piece in the High School Composition Intensive (HSCI) at Boston Conservatory. Over the span of two weeks, we wrote three pieces each, and this is the final piece I wrote that appeared at the concert at the end of the program. The "lament for a leaf" is a metaphor in a story I wrote about Code Geass (namely what occurs after the events in R2). Although I had the theme for the piece (the two measure phrase at the beginning of the piece) and some of the counterpoint in the beginning and variations on the theme, I never actually wrote it. However, I knew I wanted it to be a string piece, and given the chance in the intensive, I finally expanded the theme into an entire piece.
