Finding Mean and median-Example Problems- Math

In this video you will learn how to calculate mean and median which are parts of central tendency.

In this video I would like to work a couple of examples in which I find the mean and the median
In order to find the mean you add all of the numbers in the data set, and then divide them the total amount of numbers in the data set.
In this example you would add 32 + 35 + 30 + 30 + 6 + 35 which equals 168
You then divide that by the amount of numbers in the data set, and that is 1 2 3 4 5 6 so 168 divided by 6 = 28
That is your mean.
Now to find your median you need to rewrite your numbers from least to greatest.
6 30 30 32 35 35
Then cross off the lowest and then the greatest numbers.
I will cross off 6 which is the lowest and then 35 is the greatest, 30 is the least and 35 is the greatest.
Now at this point I'm left with 30 and 32
I will then take the mean of these two numbers, which is 31, and that is your median.
To find the mean take 30 + 32 and that = 62 divided by 2 equals 31
lets work the next example, take the mean of the next set of numbers.
I add them up 50 + 65 + 174 + 65 + 50 + 40 equals 444
Divide 444 by numbers in the data set, 1 2 3 4 5 6 and 444 divided by 6 = 74
Next for the median rearrange from least to greatest
40 50 50 65 65 174
Cross off the least and the greatest, least and the greatest, I'm left with two numbers in the middle 50 and 65 , and the mean of 50 and 65 equals 57.5 and that is your median
Finally, lets work one more example, to get the mean I take
95 + 80 + 75+87+28 which equals 365
Divide 365 by 12345 5 and 365 divided by 5 equals 73
To get the median rewrite from least to greatest
28 75 80 87 95
count that I have 5, cross out the least and the greatest, repeat, and this time we do not have to take the mean of the middle number, the median is 80
