OSM Leipzig Fly-Around

Know your city. This is a 360 degree fly around over the inner city of Leipzig based on current (September 2013) OSM data.

You can produce this yourself, maybe using another location - you need:
* a WebGL enabled browser, Firefox used to produce this clip here
* ffmpeg / avconv or another (automatable) screen capturing software

In a console window do:

Switch to the browser window:
* preload your location and zoom to the spot you want to rotate around

Open Javascript window (Shift+F4 in Firefox):
* modify the following script, adjust theta (the tilting angle) with the value used for the view you have opened, you can read theta from the adress bar
* the decrement 0.2 of a will take 1800 steps (5*360), i.e. frames, until you are at the start position again
* the interval determines how much time you give the browser to render the current view and how much time ffmpeg will get to take the snapshot of the window

* in the Javascript window, select the lines and run them (press Ctrl+R)
* wait for the job to finish, this can take a while

You will get a lot of png images, we captured three for each second, but the browser view only changed once in three seconds. Cherry pick the frames you want - I took the last of each triple, the first two were thrown away using a bash loop, something along:

Finally convert the series of png into a movie container and set the frame rate (here 20 is used, hence the playtime will be (5 * 360) / 20 = 5 * 18 = 90 seconds):
