Azure SQL Server 2022 : Provision a database

In order to start fully utilizing the SQL Azure cloud, you need to set up some databases so you can actually start storing things up there on your servers. Now, these databases are going to look and feel and act a lot like local databases, but obviously, they're provisioned on the logical servers up there. So we're going to take a look at how to provision a database. Now, there's a few ways you can do this. You can do it through Management Studio, but you can do it through the Azure portal, which I prefer because you have the full set of options. So we're going to flip to the Azure portal. So here I'm connected to my Azure portal, portal.azure.com. You can log into your account, and you can see under my all resources here, everything that I have provisioned at this point. I have two servers, I have an insideoutserver and a sqlserverinsideout server. This insideoutserver was provisioned without any databases on it. And since this topic is about provisioning databases, we're going to provision some right here. So you can see over here there are some quick starts and some tutorials. I can click "SQL Database" right here, which will take me to setting up a Database as a Service or I could click "Create a resource," or I could go to this and go to my SQL databases. There are 100 ways to skin this cat, but I'm just going to go to the SQL databases list, which shows me my existing database, and then I'm going to go ahead and click "Create" to add another one. So this will come up and it looks a lot like provisioning a server. It wants to know what you're going to provision this on. This one starts giving me a cost estimate. Servers -- logical SQL Server provisioning doesn't do this because you're just provisioning the server. What they charge you for is DTU, which is like data units. It's how much data you're moving in and out of here. And essentially through this process, you're able to sort of estimate your cost per year based on how much you're going to move around this server. So you'll see right now with the standard usage, it's saying it's going to cost me $14.72 a month and with your free trial you get $200, so this would take a while for me to use that up. But we'll talk more about that in just a second. So to provision this server, the first thing I have to do is pick my subscription and my resource group, free trial and my InsideOut group is fine. Then I have to give it a name.
