How to force your users to update the app?

Hey guys, my name is Waqas and in this tutorial, I am going
to show What is Firebase Remote Config. And how you can use it in your app. So basically we will create a small project that will make sure that the user is using the latest version of the app. There could be a lot of situation when you actually need all of your users to update the app. Let's say you are using the Instagram API in one of your apps and one day you receive an email saying that they have updated their API, and they want you to update API in your app.

Okay, that's not a problem, you can handle it. So, You open Android Studio and change the API, generate an APK file and roll it out to production.

Everything working fine but you start realizing that not all of your users have updated their app? So now, how will you ask them to please update the app?

So, to avoid that situation, we can implement the Firebase Remote Config to force the user to update the app.

We will be putting the latest version code of app in Firebase Remote Config then we will fetch it in our app and compare it with the current version code of the app. If the current version code is less than fetched version code then we will show an AlertDialog asking the user to update the app and that will take them to Google Play store where they can update the app.
