Spring Fertilizing || Pruning Hydrangeas || Planting Ginger & Caladium || Saturday Vlog

Time for spring garden chores! In this video I talked about fertilizing evergreens and flowering shrubs. Mostly what I did was relevant to fertilizing evergreens and acid loving plants as well as woody flowering perennials. I used Espoma Holly Tone and Espoma Rose Tone and added some earth worm castings, compost and kelp meal to the soil. In a few weeks I'll be working the garden beds with garden tone, compost, earth worm castings etc. When I do this I will also talk about fertilizing with alfalfa pellets. After amending the soils and potted plants, I heavily pruned back my hydrangeas, they needed it badly! I then potted up a large hedychium ginger. I will do a separate video on how to grow ginger, particularly how to plant ginger in pots. Some of my frog in a blender caladiums were starting to dry up so I got those potted up. Earlier than I'd like, but if i waited I think they would have shriveled beyond a point of being able to salvage them. Lastly we had a look how the seedlings are doing and smelled some orchids. Next week we are going shopping for plants and touring some nurseries! There will be a big plant haul!
