***UPDATE 7/11/15***: This siren is no longer active, it has been deactivated a few months ago by Greenwood County Emergency Management. I don't know why they did that. And I have no idea if Greenwood County is still planning on phasing out their alert siren system.
Video taken on July 7, 2014. Monthly test of the Greenwood County alert siren system. This siren is tested at the first Monday of each month at 9:00 AM EST (depending on the weather conditions). This siren is set on chopper 3. I finally decided to video one of Greenwood County's sirens. This video is the very first recording of one of the sirens in Greenwood County. This siren seems it started about 5 minutes late. But a couple minutes before this siren went off, there was a Federal Signal Modulator 5020 (in downtown Greenwood, SC at Lander University) went off in wail and voice (not heard in this video) about 2 or 3 miles away from this siren. I did catch that on video but I decided to not post the video since it's hard to hear it and hard to hear what the voice is saying. After the Modulator went off, I thought this siren will not go off, until moments later it went off.
In 2013, the Greenwood County Emergency Management announced they will phase out the whole siren system in 2015 because some of the sirens are not working. But now, I'm not sure they will do that soon because they did not talk about that lately.
They recently re-scheduled the siren system test from the first Tuesday of the month to the first Monday.
This siren is located in Greenwood, South Carolina at Northwest Fire and Rescue Department near Harris Baptist church and an old factory off of Oakwood drive next to Summit street.
