Lesson 5.0: Types of Common Final Exam (CFE) cases.
There are only two kinds of cases: multi-competency ones and comprehensive ones. These multi-competency ones are called “multis,” and they are short in length. The comprehensive ones are called “comps” and they are longer. In the modern sense, we would call them Day 3 cases, Day 2 cases and Day 1 cases.
1) Day 3 multi cases are small, 45-90 minutes in length, they have multiple technical competencies inside them: Financial Reporting (FR), MA (Management Accounting), Tax, Finance, Assurance & Audit, and Strategy & Governance.
2) Day 2 cases are long, they are 5 hours, they have only 3 competencies: FR, MA and your specific role.
3) Day 1 cases are also comprehensive, they are 4 hours long, they test you on enabling competencies.
This is why I like to call CFE the “4-5-4” exam, it’s a quick reminder how many hours each day is: Day 1 is 4, Day 2 is 5, Day 3 is 4.
