Beekeeping in Perm region of the Russian Federation has been ongoing since the 12th century. Beekeeping products are part of the human’s diet, their properties are the basis for traditional medicine, and pollination activities by bees are essential for agriculture. As a result of adaptation to the northern habitat, Apis mellifera mellifera L. evolved as the Prikamskaya breed type. We present the experience of the identification of honey bees the Prikamskaya breed type by morphometric and ecological parameters comparing with standard parameters of A. m. mellifera L.and with parameters of south introduced honey bees A. m. carpatica. A study of the physiological adaptations of bees to the long winter period showed that at the beginning of the overwintering (in October) secretory activity of the intestinal epithelium increased according to histological studies, which corresponds to the increased activity of the catalase and phosphatase enzymes based on enzyme studies. Thus, it has been determined that at the end of the overwintering, bees of the Apis mellifera carpatica emerge from a state of infertile period before the Apis mellifera mellifera, proving in the increased activity of enzymes (catalase and phosphatases) of bees beginning to care for brood. Therefore, the honeybees of the Prikamskaya breed type represent a valuable resource for the recovery of the Apis mellifera mellifera L. population under the conditions of crossbreeding by southern bees.
