Saint-Saëns Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso in Singapore. 2nd encore and final curtain call.
Originally composed for violin and orchestra in 1863, Saint-Saëns wrote this Introduction and
Rondo Capriccioso for violin virtuoso Pablo de Sarasate. A brief work with a reflective opening, almost like an operatic recitative and a dazzling aria full of fireworks, tailor-made to show off Sarasate’s famed technique. It immediately became standard virtuoso fare, and, after Georges Bizet arranged it for violin and piano, it became mandatory for any talented and daring violinist. Saint-Saëns met Sarasate when he was just 15 and Saint-Saëns was 24. (Edited from The Chicago Symphony Orchestra program note by Phillip Huscher

"I heard Joakim perform this piece in Oslo 2 years (when Joakim was 16 years old) before this concert and was touched by his interpretation. I knew at that point I have to share this piece with my audiences in Singapore. Played with distinctive clarity and deep emotion, this performance was the perfect ending of an afternoon of wonderful chamber music. It is also quite fitting as well as this piece was written for Sarasate when he was 19 years old. Joakim was just about to turn 19 on the day of this performance." (Richard Y.
