Ok, been awhile. Years ago I was playing this upstairs club in Kihei Maui. The night came to an end and every one had left and since I was packing up my gear the owner of the club brought me my Pau Hana Corona. We chatted while I am loading up gear. Very nice lady and a good friend to Lonomusic and people of Maui and Kihei. It was her Birthday or something and through the night people were celebrating with her and buying her flowers and stuff. Now with just her and I, everyone left, she asked me if I would like to take a dozen roses home for my girlfriend and I kindly declined. She asked why and I responded that my friend is a gardenia girl and she knows that I would not have gotten this for her. She mentioned" whatʻs the difference, flowers are flowers", I said far as I know when Gardenia enters the room you donʻt need to see it, you know itʻs there. It radiates the room and all other flowers are made mute. Unlike the rose, you have put it right up under your nose to smell it and by that time itʻs too late! She got mad and I made it up to her by offering to teach her how to surf the next day. She excepted and we met at the Cove park for her first surf lesson. Sheʻs still and nice lady and still is in Kihei according to a good source Kenny Roberts. Oh yeah, it did not get me fired and we are still friends today, Rose Royce is her name.
