A look at the island and mountains where season two construction will happen. A tour of the new underground base. We start at the far north end of the island docks, and travel the length of the island where season 1 construction and caving happened. A trip on the minecart railway to the new mountain, and continue south to the end of the first mountain, where a lake near the ocean marks the end of the area I will be using for my season two construction project. Then, a tour over the underground base that AnonFirefly and AlexZang built over the last month and a half or so. Finally, I discuss food and saturation. However, I make several mistakes. Here is correct information about food in minecraft: (NB: This information is changed in 1.4.5. Mushroom stew is now just like Chicken) The very short summary: Steak is best; stew is a close second. Chicken is next, and bread and fish tie for "last". First: The simplified rule of hunger in minecraft: Your hunger ranges from 0 (empty) to 40 (full). Above 20 (the full displayed bar) you cannot eat. Below 18 (one shank missing on the display) you do not heal. All food adds to both the displayed food bar and your non-displayed saturation bar. Two mushroom stew, requiring you to be down 4.5 shanks (5.5 left), will fill you up completely (39.2 units of food, which is as good as 40.) To do this with bread or fish, each adds 6 to the saturation. Three bread will give you 18 saturation, not 20; to fill up you need 4 bread. To eat 3 bread (and get close to full) you have to be down 5.5 shanks (only 4.5 left). With Chicken, each chicken gives 7.2 saturation. Two chickens give 14.4 (As good as 15), but requires being down 3.5 shanks. Filling up requires being down 6.5 shanks. Two chickens are a good alternative to 2 stews. Steak and pork (cooked) add 12.8 (As good as 13) saturation from 1. These do not need to be eaten in pairs -- a single one is good enough for the most part. Eating two will fill you up completely, however at that point it is the same as eating two stew -- they have the same effect on the base food bar. In summary: 1. Steak and cooked porkchops add 4 shanks (8 units) to the base bar, and 12.8 (as good as 13) to the saturation. 1 is pretty good (20+13=33). 2 is full. 2. Mushroom stew adds 4 shanks (8 units) to the base bar and 9.6 to saturation. 2 is full. (1=20+10 = 30). 3. Chicken adds 3 shanks (6 units) to the base and 7.2 to saturation. 2 is very good. (1=20+8; 2=20+15 = 35). 4. Bread and fish add 2.5 shanks (5 units) to the base and 6 to saturation. 3 is very good, but potentially hard (you have to be down more than 50% of your food bar). (2=20+12=32; 3=20+18=38). TL;DR: Prior to 1.4.5 (In 1.4.5, mushroom stew behaves like chicken.) Assuming you fill up your main (displayed) hunger bar, then 40: Two mushroom strew (started down 4.5 - 8 shanks) 40: Two steak/porkchop (started down 4.5 - 8 shanks) 38: Three bread/fish (started down 5.5 - 7.5 shanks) 35: Two chicken (started down 3.5 - 6 shanks) 33: 1 steak/porkchop (Started down 0.5 - 4 shanks) 32: Two bread/fish (Started down 3 - 5 shanks) 30: 1 stew (Started down 0.5 - 4 shanks) 28: 1 chicken (started down 0.5 - 3 shanks) 25: 1 bread/fish (started down 0.5 - 2.5 shanks) Or: Steak is best; stew is a close second. Chicken is next, and bread and fish tie for "last". Other food (melons, normal apples, etc) are junk. Stew has the advantage of being easy to get once you've gotten mushrooms, and can be made "easily available" in areas you frequent. Bread has the advantage of being an early game food. Fish has the advantage of only needing water, wood, and string; you are likely to have water and wood, and get string from spiders. Remember: The simplified rule of minecraft hunger: Above 20 you cannot eat; below 18 you do not heal.
