The current Leaf has a 75 mile electric range. This would be a big step towards overcoming EV range anxiety. It is thought that an affordable 200 mile range EV will be a turning point. This would trigger the mass adaption of EV's and accelerate the gas powered car's decline. • Saab is back and will produce an electric car. First it will produce a gas powered 9-3 followed by an electric one. Expect the 9-3 EV sometime in 2015. • Our post peak oil dreams of the U.S. sitting on a trillion barrels of shale oil in the rocks of the mountain west may be over. After 30 years of trying, shell is pulling out of it's oil shale project there. It's not actually oil shale embedded in the shale rock, it's kerogen. It has to be heated and then processed to make synthetic oil. Regardless of the future price of oil, if it takes the energy equivalent of a barrel of oil to get a barrel, then that energy resource will not be viable. This is the same reason the massive oil deposits on Titan will remain there. It's all about net energy or energy returned on energy invested. • A daredevil tried to cross the Atlantic using helium filled balloons. He ran into problems and had to land in Newfoundland. This is the same guy that crossed the English Channel and the Alps using helium balloons. • Fukushima could make the Northern Hemisphere unlivable. Thousands of workers are preparing to relocate the fuel rods from the damaged reactor. If a mistake is made, radiation 14,000 times greater than Hiroshima could be released. Experts say, if the fuel rod pool collapses, that people in the Northern Hemisphere should evacuate to south of the equator. • Giant killer hornets are killing people and eating bees in China. They've killed about 30 people and injured hundreds. The hornet population has exploded there because the average temperature has risen about two degrees Fahrenheit. Survivor's report that the more you run, the more they want to chase you. Victims reported being chased for several hundred yards.
