This unique abandoned museum served as an interpretation center for the surrounding area but also as a Marine Education center with the main focus on cetaceans. 13 real skeletons were displayed here, one of them being a Fin Whale with 20 meters (65ft) in the same environment, 16 full-size replicas were also displayed, some weighing over 4 tons. More than 140 thousand people visited the museum until its closure. Years after its opening, the museum started to have fewer visitors which means less money coming in. There was no money invested in the maintenance of the building, which was in need, having some reports of the unsafe structure. The museum collected debts reaching the point of not having funds to pay the workers. It was at this point that the museum became abandoned. Many of the exhibited pieces were distributed to other museums, while some disappeared and others were stolen due to their unparalleled value. Over the years several were those who vandalized and robbed the museum. Its possible reopening is still present but very unlikely.
