Bath your Toy Poodle - DIY Dog Hygiene/Groom - a tutorial by Cooking For Dogs
BATH YOUR TOY POODLE AT HOME. Lots of owners prefer to wash and groom their pets in-house. Give your pup a bath at home and give him a professional look without the professional price tag. The type of coat your pup has will determine which products you use so check this out first. We wash our toy poodle Roland at home and share tips on how to bath a small sized dog with a thick curly coat such as Poodles, Poodle crosses, Bichons and other similar breeds.
Checklist
If you choose to wash at home here are some quick tips:
➢ Use tepid water
➢ The laundry tub is ideal to bath a small sized poodle.
➢ Place a cotton wool ball in each ear to prevent water entering the ear canal.
➢ Shampoo twice (we add a couple of drops of tea-tree oil for flea control)
➢ Make sure you wash right down to skin level
➢ Use a conditioner/de-tangler for long curly poodle coat
➢ Rinse thoroughly -- till water runs clear - wipe eyes with a soft sponge
➢ Take pup out of the water & remove cotton wool from ears
➢ Stand pup on a slip proof surface - preferably waist high
➢ Towel dry
➢ Use a hair dryer on warm setting to dry coat off thoroughly
➢ Ensure the hair dryer is approx 25cm away from pups skin and always in motion
Your dog's coat will determine the products you use -- so get some professional advice if you are unsure.
Brush and remove knots from long curly coat before and after drying to prevent matting.
Give your pup a treat and a game -- he deserves it for being so good and will associate bath time with the fun afterwards. It's a great incentive!
