Agriculture in the Americas on the road to COP-27: challenges and opportunities for public policy The Twenty-seventh session of the Conference of the Parties (COP27) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will be held in Sharm-El Sheik, Egypt between November 6 and 16 of this year. Given this and since the beginning of this year, we have been working with the ministerial authorities and secretariats of agriculture and livestock in the Americas around climate challenges and the need to design and implement public policies in accordance with the requirements of climate action. It has been agreed, and made explicit on repeated occasions, to strengthen collective work to increase the participation and leadership of agriculture in the Americas in the climate process. In this direction, on September 22 and 23 at IICA Headquarters in Costa Rica, a face-to-face meeting was held with the participation of representatives from 32 countries of the Americas, more than 20 Ministers of Agriculture, the CEOs of the main global climate funds and authorities of institutions with great influence on regional and global politics and development. It is in continuity with this, and in preparation for the participation of Agriculture in the Americas, that this joint IICA-IFPRI event is being organized. This event, Agriculture in the Americas on the road to COP-27: public policy challenges and opportunities, seeks to create a space for inter-agency dialogue and discussion on the changes and continuities in regional public policy regarding the contribution of agriculture to face the climate crisis.
