Internet Connectivity is the core of IoT. In this workshop we are going to cover the major protocols being used in embedded devices. The meetup will consist of an hour of presentation and questions followed by an hour of work-shopping the material covered. The workshop section will provide hands on experience. You will need a laptop to participate. It is also recommended that you bring a tablet / smartphone as these can be really handy for sending example packets. Topics Covered: Internet Connectivity Protocols *Wifi Connectivity * HTTP * Websockets * MQTT * CoAP We will be using the ESP[masked] module to connect to Wifi. We will be coving the topics listed above, each with a hands-on workshop section to demonstrate the technology. Requirements: A laptop running Linux / Mac / Windows is required for the workshop section of the meetup. If you are running windows please download the latest mbed windows driver, to be installed when you first plug the board in, instructions can be found here. If you are not familiar with the mbed environment please check out our first meetup page and the documentation to bring yourself up to speed. Purchase: Please bring your own ESP[masked] Wifi Module. These can be purchased from a number of vendors online, I bought mine from amazon with Prime delivery, it can be found cheaper elsewhere. We will have breakout boards for the ESP8266 chip to Seeed Grove headers, but if you would like to build your own you can. Here is the OSH-Park project page where modules can be ordered in batches of 3 at a cost of ~1$ per board. Expect shipping times of ~2 weeks. We will also be using the Seeed Grove base shield and the FRDM-K64F for this class. We aim to have lender boards (FRDM-K64F) for the workshop section of the meetup, so please RSVP so we can ensure enough boards for everyone.
