Once upon a time, a long time ago a king and queen ruled a distant land. The queen was kind and charming and all the people of the kingdom loved her. The only sadness in the queen's life was that she wanted to have a child but had none.

One winter day, the queen was embroidering while looking through her ebony window at the freshly fallen snow. A bird flew to the window surprising the queen, causing her finger to prick. A single drop of blood fell into the snow outside his window. While looking at the blood in the snow, he thought, "Oh, how I would like to have a daughter who has snow-white skin, lips as red as blood, and hair as black as ebony."

Very soon the queen got her wish when she gave birth to a girl who had skin as white as snow, red lips as blood and hair as black as ebony. They called Princess Snow White, but sadly the queen died after giving birth.

A short time later, the king married a new woman who was beautiful, but also arrogant and cruel. I had studied black magic and had a magic mirror, which I asked daily,

Mirror, mirror, who is the cutest of all?

Every time I asked this question, the mirror gave the same answer, "You, oh, queen, you are the most beautiful of all." This pleased the queen very much since she knew that her magic mirror could only tell the truth.

One morning when the queen asked, "Mirror, mirror, who is the cutest of all?" he was horrified when he replied:

You, my queen, are beautiful; It is true.
But Snow White is even more beautiful than you.

The queen entered an attack of anger and ordered her hunter to take Snow White to the forest and kill her. He demanded that the hunter return with the heart of Snow White as evidence.

The poor hunter took Snow White to the forest, but could not kill the girl. Instead, he let her go and brought the heart of a wild boar to the queen.

Snow White was now alone in the great forest and did not know what to do. The trees seemed to whisper to each other scaring Snow White, who ran. He ran over sharp stones and through thorns. He ran as far as his feet took her and when he was falling the night he saw a small house and entered it to rest.
