Recently grabbed a 7950X and 7700X on launch day. Broke out the 7950X first, but I wanted to give the 7700X some run as well. Since the BIOS resets when you switch chips, I took it as an opportunity to try kicking up the RAM speed a little bit on the Trident Z5 Neo RGB DDR5 sticks that are rated at 6000 CL30, EXPO approved. I got these sticks running at 6400MHz CL32, no WHEA errors. Low latency mode and High bandwidth mode are enabled for the DDR5 memory. Resizable BAR is enabled. CPU is stock. 3090 Ti is slightly overclocked through MSI Afterburner: +50 Core clock, +500 Memory clock. In terms of average it's pretty close, but it does feel a bit smoother and stable. This is my own suspicion and I could be totally wrong, but I think AMD is hiding performance with these like they did with the X3D. I think there will be a driver update or something that will uplift the performance, maybe after Raptor Lake releases. These are just my own thoughts, so take them with a grain of salt. Either way, I believe the modest gaming performance increase is completely by design. I believe this series of 7000s to be a filler episode that can compete on the multi core level, but the X3Ds are gonna come in and steal the show. I'm currently unable to use my Elgato 4K60 Pro Mk2 to record the footage in fullscreen mode, maybe the drivers are not updated to handle it yet. My computer just shuts off when I try to go fullscreen with the Elgato. If anyone has any ideas how to fix this, please let me know. I do prefer to use fullscreen mode for best performance, hopefully there's a fix soon.
