In this video I visualize the improvements in life expectancy in the world from 1950 up until 2020 with colored markers on a world map. The average life span worldwide has during these 70 years gone from 47 to 72, and many nations has more than doubled its life expectancy. Any nation with a life expectancy below 50 is marked in red, between 50 and 60 marked in pink, between 60 and 70 marked in yellow, between 70 and 80 marked in green and above 80 marked in blue. Even though some nations can see temporary drops in this development indicator, overall, the trend for all nations in the world is positive and many of the poorest of nations in 1950 have caught up with their richer peers. The highest life expectancy today is found in nations like Japan, Switzerland, Singapore, South Korea, Israel, Iceland, Sweden, Italy and Spain. In Africa the lowest numbers can be found, namely in the Central African Republic, Lesotho, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. The numbers are extrapolated using current day geographical borders so newer nations can still be represented before their year of sovereignty. All the clarifications can be found in the original source but worthy of mention is that Taiwan is counted separately from China, but Hong Kong and Macau is not. Kosovo is included in the numbers for Serbia and Crimea is included in the numbers for Ukraine. Nations under 90 000 inhabitants are not included and most oversee territories and the similar is not included.
