You may have heard the Bible story of a man named Job who had lost everything and was questioning God. Well, in Job 38–42, God gives a 20 minute response. If you read God’s entire response in those five chapters, it’s LONG. God responds by asking Job if he was ALSO there on the day that God created the earth. God goes on to describe in great detail how he created—the ocean floor, volcanoes, shorelines, canyons, mountains...donkeys, and everything else.

If I had been Job and I’d just listened to God’s dissertation on the process of creation, I think I would have been crushed under the weight of such a huge description of God’s power. But when God finishes the address, Job’s response is not what I expected. Job says, “Wow, the creator of the universe just spoke to me.”

God doesn’t let us be crushed under his transcendence. He kneels to meet us on our level.

Oh Sinner

I asked God, "What have You done?
Everything I love is gone.
Why must I endure this pain,
