Minecraft | Java 8 on OS X Yosemite and Minecraft 1.8

Want to the latest version of Java and Minecraft on the Apple Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10? This video can help you out. Apple provides a link to a website in Yosemite to install Java 1.6, that will allow Minecraft 1.8 to work.

But this is a legacy version of Java not the latest version available from Oracle. If you are happy to run version 1.6 and Minecraft runs properly you don't need to do this.

To check which version you have you can type into terminal:

java -version

The Apple web site links to Java 1.6, specifically 1.6.0_65, a 64 bit version.

Version 1.8 of Java appears to work with Minecraft which skips the version 1.7 which seemed to cause some issues to get this version go to: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html and download the latest version of Java 8.
